From 1996 to 1999, I voraciously pursued the craft of web copywriting. Then, in the year 2000, I was hired as the Lead Web Copywriter, and later Director of Creative Web Writing, at Aesop Marketing Corporation (spearheaded by Mark Joyner, who is one of the pioneers and leading experts of Internet Marketing).

Some people who don't know the value of expertly written web copy are often shocked to find out that a web copywriter's hourly fees are as high as lawyers' fees. One of my clients put it in perspective as follows: He said he'd rather spend $200 or more per hour on a copywriter who is skilled in writing web copy that sells, rather than spend the same rate on a lawyer. His reason? "A 'killer copywriter' makes me money -- my lawyer doesn't. My lawyer is an expense -- while a killer copywriter is one of the best investments I can make in my business."

The Direct Marketing Association predicts that this year, almost $900 billion worth of business will be done through direct marketing -- and nearly a third of that business (i.e., $300 billion) will be done online. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the size of the industry will keep skilled web copywriters busy -- and laughing all the way to the bank -- for decades to come!
